HOUSE, GARDENS & THE DAMBUSTERS

WOODHALL SPA HISTORY IN A REMARKABLE SETTING
Petwood began as the country home of Baroness Grace van Eckhardstein, later Lady Weigall. During the First World War it served as a convalescent hospital, before becoming an officers’ mess during the Second World War.
Officers of 617 Squadron made Petwood their home while based at RAF Woodhall Spa. Today the Squadron Bar preserves photographs and memorabilia, while the house and Harold Peto gardens retain the atmosphere that makes this one of the village’s most evocative heritage stops.
