Ralph Cromwell, Treasurer of England, created the Great Tower in the 15th century as an unmistakable expression of status. Its enormous windows, ornate fireplaces and echoing chambers make it feel closer to a palace than a defensive keep.
The tower was rescued from demolition and export by Lord Curzon in the early 20th century. Visitors can now climb the winding stairs, find centuries-old graffiti and step onto the battlements for wide Fenland views.

Published visitor information: Standard published admission without Gift Aid: adult £11, child 5–17 £5.50, family £27.50, one-adult family £16.50. Under 5s, National Trust members and essential companions enter free. Live prices take priority.
