Pleasure grounds that became the village’s green heart
The Pinewoods developed from the pleasure grounds associated with Woodhall Spa’s baths and Victoria Hotel. Winding walks, ornamental planting and avenues of pines gave spa visitors a sheltered place to promenade and take the air.
The hotel disappeared after the fire of 1920, but the woodland remained central to Woodhall Spa’s character. Today its public paths preserve something of that designed landscape and form part of the wider Conservation Area. Natural surfaces, roots, mud and low light can affect access, so the final trail will distinguish the main route from any more accessible alternative only after an on-foot audit.
Next: Golf Hotel & former hospital
Leave the woodland by the physically checked route towards the Golf Hotel and former Alexandra Hospital. The exact exit, pavement side and crossings remain provisional.
