A church shaped by the village’s rapid growth
By the 1890s St Andrew’s was too small for Woodhall Spa’s growing population — especially when seasonal spa visitors filled the village. A meeting in 1892 led to this new church, designed by Charles Hodgson Fowler and built by Bowman of Stamford.
The foundation stone was laid on 11 March 1893 and worship began that September. The first phase was a substantial brick nave seating about 500 people on chairs; the chancel followed in 1904. St Peter’s became the parish church in 1915. Inside, an oak rood screen designed by W H Wood was installed in 1920, with further oak panelling added in 1928.
