StoryA congregation that quickly outgrew its home

From a combined schoolroom to a chapel for 425

Woodhall Spa’s Methodists pressed for a place of worship and obtained land in 1898. A combined chapel and schoolroom opened in 1899, but the congregation soon needed more space.

Foundation stones for a larger chapel were laid in snow on 29 January 1907, and it opened that August. Built by Mr Thompson of Louth for about £4,000, the new building seated roughly 425 people. The earlier chapel remained the Sunday School. The large 1907 chapel was later sold and converted to other uses, so today this is an exterior heritage stop rather than a public interior.
