The story behind the stop

A small building with a remarkably big Woodhall story

The museum occupies a rare Boulton & Paul corrugated-iron bungalow built on a timber frame. It was moved to this site in 1887 and became the Wield family home, remaining in family use until the 1960s.

Thomas and John Wield ran a bathchair business serving people visiting the spa. John’s glass-plate photographs of the village and its residents now form the heart of the collection. The community museum opened in May 1987 and was extensively refurbished in 2013. It operates seasonally and closes through the quieter winter months, so always check its live visit page before setting out.
